Ankylosing spondylitis is an inflammatory disease that can cause some of the vertebrae in your spine to fuse together. This makes the spine less flexible and can result in a hunched-forward posture. If ribs are affected, it may be difficult to breathe deeply. Ankylosing spondylitis affects men more often than women. Signs and symptoms of ankylosing spondylitis typically begin in early adulthood. Inflammation also can occur in other parts of your body — such as your eyes.

Lyme disease is the most common tick-borne illness in North America and Europe. Lyme disease is caused by bacteria. Deer ticks, which feed on the blood of animals and humans, can harbor this bacteria and spread it when feeding. You're more likely to get Lyme disease if you live or spend time in grassy and heavily wooded areas where ticks carrying the disease thrive. It's important to take common-sense precautions in areas where Lyme disease is prevalent.
Treatment in early stages can be antibiotics.
